Learn English with cheese!

Do you teach or are you learning English in the Zurich area? The British Cheese Centre can come to your class and give a lesson about British cheese in English, with plenty of cheese to taste too! The cost depends upon the location and the number of students, please get in touch for a quote.

However, we now offer a free tasting and presentation, complete with a cheese map and tasting notes in English for every student at the Viadukt Markthalle in Zurich. We can normally host these presentations on Tuesday and Thursday evenings but some mornings and afternoons can also be accomodated.

Your students or fellow class mates have a great opportunity to immerse themselves in an English environment, and practice their English skills with a native English speaker. The presentations are always entertaining and very tasty with between 4 and 8 cheeses, together with crackers and chutneys on offer!

Why do we offer these for free? Well, free cheese is the best advertising we can do and our presentation and the quality of our cheese never fails to win new "converts" to the British cheese cause. There is absolutely no obligation for anyone to buy any cheese, but many students do take the opportunity to practice their shopping skills in English and then later at home spread the word for us!

The informal presentation can take between 30 minutes to one hour and liquid refreshments can be purchased from one of the market bars to consume at our stall. The market closes at 8.00 pm but the main bar and restaurant is open until very late.

We can normally only cater for groups of up to 12 people but larger groups can sometimes be arranged on certain days.

For more information please contact the British Cheese "Ambassador" Michael Fontana-Jones via the contact page above right.

Some cheese facts to tempt your class with:

Britain makes more varieties of cheese than France and Switzerland combined!

Stilton is our most famous blue cheese but has never been made in the village of Stilton.

Cheddar originally comes from Cheddar village and almost all Cheddar Cheese from around the world has nothing in common with the original which we have!
